Steve continued his work of three- four days, and the rest at home. He resumed his going to bars and coming home drunk and wild in the middle of night. Later on through grapevine Helen learned that he was having affairs and particularly one special one with a woman he had met in his nightly outing and drinking. However, she really did not care. She felt as a slave and in bondage all the time. She truly did not know how to continue this life! The thought of taking her children and running again, as she had done it from her parents home and Roger's home, was constantly in her mind. It seemed that her life was a series of perpetual running! She had always escaped from her tormentors and from her agonizing situations.
She could run, but to where, with whom, to how, when?? She did not need Steve's money or help or her share of what they had build together! But she knew that he would find her and even if he did not, she would always be frightened! This particular running could not be as simple as the others!
A few months passed from the fight they had had. She told him that she knew that he had another woman. She begged him to let her go! His answer was:
"I'm getting even with you!" He never denied having affair (s).
One day in September when she was in the carpool line to pick up Elizabeth from school with her head on the steering wheel, with her mind deep in thought, with her eyes all cloudy and moist, she heard a tap on the window of her car. Chris was at the neighbor's house. It was about one o'clock in the afternoon. She raised her head, not even knowing that she was crying. She felt the dampness of her tears on her cheeks. She looked to see who had tapped at the window of her car. Suddenly she took a deep sigh! She could not believe her eyes. The person, who had knocked at window of her car was Jacob!!!
